1. Information We Collect

We collect the following information when you use Faith Compass:

  • Email address — collected via AWS Cognito when you create an account
  • Question timestamps — stored in DynamoDB to enforce usage limits, automatically deleted after 25 hours
  • Location data — used in-browser only for church finding, never stored server-side
  • Payment information — processed securely through Stripe; we never store card details

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide Scripture-based responses to your questions
  • To find churches near your location
  • To analyze content for Scripture alignment
  • To manage your account and subscription
  • To enforce free tier usage limits (3 questions per 24-hour rolling window)

3. AI Usage Disclosure

Faith Compass uses OpenAI's GPT-4o model to process your questions and generate Scripture-based responses. Your questions are sent to OpenAI for processing. We do not use your questions to train AI models. OpenAI processes data per their own privacy policy.

4. Voice Data

When you use the voice search feature, your spoken words are processed locally in your browser using the Web Speech API. Faith Compass does not record, store, or transmit your voice audio to our servers. Voice transcripts (the text of what you said) may be temporarily stored in your browser's local storage to preserve your session during sign-in flows and are deleted immediately after processing.

5. Account Information

When you create an account or sign in via Google, Apple, or X (Twitter), we collect your email address, display name, and profile picture (if provided by the social platform). This information is stored in our secure AWS Cognito user directory and used solely to authenticate you and personalize your experience.

6. Terms & Privacy Acceptance

We maintain a record of when you accepted our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, including the date, time, and version of the policy you accepted. This record is stored securely in our database.

7. Marketing Communications

If you opt in to marketing communications during registration, we may send you devotional content, feature updates, and occasional offers from Faith Compass. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email or by contacting us.

8. Data Retention

  • Usage records: Automatically deleted after 25 hours via DynamoDB TTL
  • Account data: Retained until you request deletion
  • Consent records: Retained for legal compliance
  • Questions/content: Processed in real-time, not permanently stored
  • Location data: Never stored — used only in your browser session

9. Third-Party Services
